A smart taxi driver had prevented a financial fraud in the North Somerset when the 87-year-old female lady told the driver that she is going to withdraw all of her money from bank account.
In the early afternoon, the taxi company booked a cab via a phone call from a person with a foreign accent. The person asked the company to pick up his mother and take her to the Nat West Bank in Clevedon for a company to pick up “his mother” and take her to the Nat West Bank in Clevedon from their home in Nailsea.
Between the journey towards the bank, the woman said that she has heard something funny is going on with her bank account that’s why she is going bank to withdraw all of her money.
Donald Wilby, the driver from Nailsea, became suspicious and after arriving at the bank, he alerted the bank staff who then froze the woman’s account and informed the police.
An official from the Somerset Police said: “Mr Wilby Donald, did precisely what we would have wanted and everyone should behave like that in that type of situation, the efficiency and smartness of the driver have saved the woman from losing her life savings.
“We will hope that the other taxi drivers and courier collection service agents will take this on board and alert us if they are in a similar situation,” added Det Milliner.
